On my Wendover jaunt the other day (of which I will write more soon – it’s a proper day out if you have the time and money) I spotted this bag in a shop called The Forge.

The Forge isn’t the smartest fashion boutique in the town by a long stretch - that accolade goes to the lovely Curve which stocks Joseph, Nicole Fahri and all manner of other delicious labels. But as I find more and more out here, few boutiques can dress you head to toe, and it’s much more about magpie shopping, popping in to places - even if they don’t seem quite ‘you’ - and keeping an open mind.

I bought the one at the front. I could easily have bought another couple though.

The Forge currently has a wide range of stupendously well-priced faux leather bags that, hand on heart, look exactly like the real thing. Not only are the bags themselves a great size, but they also have another smaller bag (with shoulder strap) inside and in the case of the one I bought, also a purse. For £39! They look about £150.  My friend, who’s at the high end of the fashion biz, couldn’t believe it either and immediately took a pic to for a friend she thought would want it too.

I’ve had a look on the website which I’m afraid displays these fabulously bags appallingly – one strange shot of a bag lying on the floor! - but the lady in the shop was charming and I’m sure would be amenable to sending you pics through if you can’t make it over to Wendover. (There’s also a store in Berkamsted if that is better for you geographically).

There are loads of different colours available, from the natural browns and mushrooms through to cerise pink. If you’re looking for a cool large tote, I’d make your move quickly. They won’t be there for long.
